Nightdress, Combinations, Knickers, Camisole!

Who knew that there is an entire digital collection of vintage lingerie ads from the 1910s at the NYPL? I have been discovering all sorts of interesting things in the name of “research” lately. Here are some of my favourites:

Barkers Kensington
“Beatrice” Nightdress ; “Olive” Combinations ; ‘Marguerite’ Knickers ; “Marie” Camisole.” New York Public Library Digital Collections.
“Attractive Lingerie And Negligees.” New York Public Library Digital Collections

Attractive Lingerie, yes! Pain in the ass to wear, probably, yes! Not only did people 100 years ago have to wear so many uncomfortable layers of underwear, they didn’t have the internet to find all of these interesting things…
